Terms of Service
These terms apply to everyone who uses Concaso — consumers running an assessment and legal professionals holding a membership. By using the service you agree to them.
Maintained by Concaso. This page describes our own practices — it is not legal advice and is not an independent certification.
1. Concaso is not a law firm
Concaso provides informational tools that help you organise and understand a consumer dispute. We are not a law firm and none of our staff are your lawyers. We do not provide legal advice, do not represent you, and do not predict the outcome of any matter. Nothing on Concaso creates a lawyer–client relationship, and no information you submit to us is protected by solicitor–client privilege or any similar professional-secrecy protection.
We keep the information you submit confidential and use it only as described in these terms and our Privacy Policy. We do not disclose your information — including your assessment answers, identifying details, and uploaded documents — to any third party, including member lawyers, without your consent, except where the law requires it. However, confidentiality is not the same as legal privilege. You acknowledge that we will act in accordance with applicable laws, including any obligation to report crimes of which we become aware.
An assessment, opportunity score, factor card, or timeline is an informational summary based on the answers you provide. It is not a legal opinion and should not be relied on as a substitute for advice from a licensed lawyer in your jurisdiction. Limitation periods and filing deadlines apply to legal claims and can expire quickly — confirm any deadline with a licensed lawyer.
2. Your account
You must be at least the age of majority in your jurisdiction to create an account. You are responsible for the accuracy of the information you submit and for keeping your sign-in credentials secure. You may not create an account on someone else’s behalf without their authorisation.
3. Assessments and reports
You retain ownership of the facts and documents you submit. You grant Concaso a licence to process that content in order to generate your report, operate the service, and — only when you explicitly choose to be matched — to produce an anonymised brief for member lawyers.
Report links contain a private token. Anyone with the link can view that report, so treat it as confidential and share it only with people you trust.
4. Matters involving crime or children
Concaso is built for civil consumer disputes. Some narratives describe conduct that goes beyond a civil dispute. Where an assessment appears to involve criminal conduct, or the safety, abuse, neglect, or exploitation of a child, the matter is automatically flagged and held for human review by our team before it is treated as an ordinary matter.
- Flagged matters are not routed to member lawyers as a standard matched brief.
- We may refer a flagged matter, including the information you submitted, to your local police service, a child-protection authority, or another appropriate agency. We may do this without further notice to you where we believe someone is at risk of harm or where the law requires it.
- Flagging is an automated signal, not a legal finding. We do not determine whether an offence occurred, and a flag is not an accusation against anyone named in a narrative.
Concaso is not an emergency service and does not monitor submissions in real time. If you or a child are in immediate danger, contact your local emergency number and the police directly.
5. Connecting with lawyers
Concaso can show you member lawyers, or forward an anonymised brief to members practising in your category and jurisdiction. We do not select a lawyer for you, do not vouch for the quality of any lawyer’s work, and are not a party to any retainer you enter into. We verify that members hold an active licence with the regulator they identify, but that verification is not an endorsement.
Any fees, engagement terms, and professional obligations are strictly between you and the lawyer you retain.
6. Member-lawyer terms
This section applies to lawyers and law firms who hold a Concaso membership (“members”). It applies in addition to the rest of these Terms, and governs the relationship between the member and Concaso — not between the member and any consumer.
Eligibility and verification. A member must be a lawyer or paralegal licensed and in good standing with the regulator identified in their application, and must keep their licence number, licensing body, jurisdiction, and contact details accurate. Members must apply through the on-site application and may be asked for further proof of licensing. Concaso verifies licence status but does not assess or endorse competence, and a listing is never a referral, recommendation, or certification.
Professional responsibility. Members remain solely responsible for compliance with their own professional conduct rules, including rules on advertising and marketing, referral and fee arrangements, conflicts of interest, client identification, trust accounting, and confidentiality. A member must not use Concaso in any way that breaches those rules and must satisfy themselves that participation is permitted in their jurisdiction before purchasing a membership.
Use of briefs and consumer information. Anonymised briefs and any consumer information disclosed through Concaso are provided for the sole purpose of deciding whether to take on the matter. Members must keep that information confidential, must not use it for marketing lists, resale, data mining, or training their own models, must not attempt to re-identify a consumer outside the platform, and must run their own conflict check before accepting a matter. Members must delete or securely retain the information in line with their professional obligations if the matter is declined.
Active reviews and conduct. An active review is a matter a member currently has under consideration. Declining frees the slot immediately and untouched matters expire and free themselves, so members are expected to open matters honestly and respond promptly rather than holding matters to block competitors. Members must not contact a consumer outside the channels Concaso provides until the consumer has agreed to be contacted.
Flagged matters. If a member encounters a matter that appears to involve criminal conduct or the safety of a child, the member must notify Concaso and must not treat it as a routine matched brief. Section 4 continues to apply.
No client relationship through Concaso. A lawyer-client relationship is formed only when the member and the consumer agree to it directly, on the member’s own retainer terms. Concaso is never a party to that retainer, never shares in legal fees, and does not supervise the legal work.
Suspension and removal. Concaso may suspend or remove a listing, withhold matched briefs, or cancel a membership where a licence lapses or is restricted, where the information provided is inaccurate, where a member repeatedly fails to report outcomes, where acceptance fees are unpaid, or where a member’s conduct puts consumers at risk. Fees already incurred remain payable.
7. Lawyer memberships and billing
Memberships are sold as recurring subscriptions (Discoverable, Basic, Pro, or Enterprise) billed monthly or yearly through our payment processor. Each tier includes the listing, matched-category, and active-review allowances shown on the pricing page at the time of purchase.
Fees are charged in the currency of your billing jurisdiction — for example, Canadian dollars (CAD) for Canada, United States dollars (USD) for the United States, and similar local currencies for other supported regions. The numeric price is the same in each supported currency; we do not convert at live exchange rates.
- Access unlocks as soon as payment is confirmed.
- Upgrades and downgrades take effect immediately and are prorated by the payment processor against your current period.
- Cancellation stops future renewals; access continues until the end of the period you have already paid for. We do not provide partial refunds for unused time except where required by law.
- Members must hold an active licence in good standing. We may suspend or remove a listing if a licence lapses, is misrepresented, or a regulator restricts practice.
Membership does not guarantee any volume of matters, matches, or retained clients. Prices and fees may change without notice; the price in effect at the time of your purchase or renewal applies to that transaction.
8. Case acceptance fee and outcome reporting
Membership covers your listing and your active-review allowance. Separately, a member owes an acceptance fee each time the member accepts a matter through Concaso. The fee is a flat amount set by the estimated value of the case as recorded on the brief at the time of acceptance. Where the brief states a range rather than a single figure, the tier is determined by the midpoint of that range.
All membership and acceptance fees are charged in the currency of your jurisdiction: CAD (Canada), USD (United States), GBP (United Kingdom), EUR (Ireland), AUD (Australia) and NZD (New Zealand). The same figures apply in every country — only the currency you are charged in changes, and we do not convert at live exchange rates. Fee tiers by estimated value, stated in your own billing currency, are:
- Estimated value of $10,000 and under — no fee;
- Over $10,000 up to $50,000 — $75;
- Over $50,000 up to $150,000 — $200;
- Over $150,000 up to $500,000 — $500;
- Over $500,000 — custom, agreed in writing before acceptance.
- The fee is charged on acceptance, not on outcome. It is not contingent on recovery and is not a referral fee for any specific result.
- The estimated value is the consumer’s stated amount in dispute as reflected in the brief. It is an intake figure only and is not a valuation of the claim.
- If a matter is withdrawn by the consumer, or the member declines it before any identifying information is released, no acceptance fee is owed.
Outcome reporting is mandatory. For every matter you accept, you must submit a short result report through the portal — whether the matter was retained, resolved, discontinued, or referred out, and the outcome at a high level. Reporting does not require, and you must not submit, privileged or client-confidential information. The report is limited to high-level structured status information that can be disclosed without client consent; report only what your professional obligations permit.
Reporting credit. Members who are current on outcome reporting for their previously accepted matters earn a credit at each paid acceptance tier, charged in their own billing currency: $10 at the $75 tier, $25 at the $200 tier and $50 at the $500 tier, and a custom credit at the top tier. Credits are applied against acceptance fees owed on future matters; they are not redeemable for cash and are not refundable. Falling behind on reports removes the credit until the outstanding reports are submitted, and repeated non-reporting may result in suspension from receiving matched matters.
9. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Submit false, misleading, or unlawfully obtained information;
- Use Concaso to harass, threaten, or defame any person;
- Scrape, resell, or redistribute lawyer listings, briefs, or report content outside the service;
- Attempt to identify a consumer behind an anonymised brief before it is claimed;
- Interfere with, probe, or attempt to bypass the security of the service.
Concaso is intended for civil consumer disputes. If your matter involves criminal allegations or the safety of a child, contact the appropriate authorities directly and see section 4.
10. Availability and changes
We may change, suspend, or discontinue features at any time. We aim to keep the service available but do not guarantee uninterrupted access. Material changes to these terms will be posted here with an updated date; continuing to use Concaso after that date means you accept the revised terms.
11. Disclaimers and liability
The service is provided “as is” without warranties of any kind, to the fullest extent permitted by law. To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Concaso’s total liability arising out of or relating to the service is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months preceding the event giving rise to the claim. We are not liable for missed limitation periods, decisions made in reliance on an assessment, or the conduct of any lawyer.
Some jurisdictions do not allow certain exclusions or limitations, so parts of this section may not apply to you.
12. Termination
You may stop using Concaso and delete your account at any time by contacting us. We may suspend or terminate accounts that breach these terms. Sections that by their nature should survive termination (ownership, disclaimers, liability, governing law) continue to apply.
13. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada applicable there, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Mandatory consumer protections in your province or country of residence still apply.
